Hey all you fellow heathens,

I'm really glad I joined. It's so great to know there's so many of you. I'm looking forward to the next newby meetup (if I can ever get in - they seem to fill up fast!).

Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion" was my epiphany, and I'm hungry for more. I read "Letter to a Christian Nation" too, and I'd love any recommendations you have. Next on my list is "Godless", as part of the new book club.

I look forward to meeting up and getting to know you.

Peace,
Pete

Hello Pete. Glad to have you join our community!

The two books you mentioned I thought were really good as well. I also enjoyed Harris' other book, The End of Faith. You might also enjoy, Christopher Hitchens' God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything and Infidel by Ayan Hirsi Ali.

One last recommendation: Susan Jacoby's "Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism". I thought it was a very inspirational read.

Welcome to the forum! If you can't make it to a newbie night, keep trying for another event. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming, and it doesn't take long to get to know everyone.

Godless should be a good read. I can hardly wait to dig into it myself. I'm still working on The Moral Animal by Robert Wright, which I would highly recommend. It's on evolutionary psychology. It's in need of an update in a few areas, but still a good primer on the subject.

I've heard good things about The Moral Animal, and I've been meaning to get around to reading it. Maybe by the time I get to it those updates will be made.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I'm really enjoying Godless. I attended the Barker - D'Souza debate Thursday, but the place was jammed by the time I got there, so I didn't get a chance to meet any of you.

No matter - I joined the next Newbie night meetup. See you there!

Welcome, Pete!

I was fortunate enough to meet Dan Barker at the MNA meeting and get a copy of Godless signed. I really enjoyed it, though I did skip the section on refuting god. Dog knows I've heard it all a million times and didn't expect to encounter much new insight. Maybe I was wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of it, though. I was laughing out loud and it really warmed my heart when he explained what humanism means.
