Religious “Values” Could Kill 3,000 U.S. Women Per Year

In a powerful piece for The Nation, Katha Pollitt has crystallized the consequences of allowing religious interests to control human sexuality. Her case in point: suppression of a vaccine against cervical cancer because the religious right fears it will encourage premarital sex. 3,000 preventable American deaths per year is a conservative number; Ms. Pollitt calls it “honor killing on the installment plan.” Read the article, aptly named “Virginity or Death,” to learn more. click here
