Atheist Coming Out Stories

Not every atheist is raised in a household that is skeptical of supernatural claims.  Growing up in a religion can be a high hurdle to jump if your family is deeply religious, and your faith condems questioning the claims made by its various creeds.  Have you come out to your family as an atheist?  What happened?  Were the results positive?  Each person has a different family, and different stories to share.  Personally, I have found being open about not having a belief in a god to be better then hiding it, even to older relatives.  Sure, things were difficult at first, but I no longer get asked, “have you found a nice church to go to?”  Christine has a blog about her coming out story.  You can share your story with others in our forum.
