March Public Meeting: Atheist Alliance International
Tonoy Emroz Alam, president of Atheist Alliance international (AAI) (and possibly other speakers from AAI) will join us via Zoom to discuss the organization and specifically their atheist refugee program, where they help resettle atheists whose lives are in danger, usually due to blasphemy laws in Muslim countries. He is an ex-Muslim atheist blogger from Bangladesh who had to flee persecution in that country. He currently lives in Germany.
After many years of having let our membership lapse, Minnesota Atheists recently rejoined AAI as a member society. We had started discussions with AAI about sponsoring an atheist refugee in Minnesota, but President Trump’s recent suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) has put that possibility in doubt.
