Board of Directors Nominations
During the Minnesota Atheists Business Meeting at 1:30 pm (which immediately precedes our Public Meeting at 2 pm) at Merriam Park Library on Sunday, January 18, 2026, we will be taking nominations for the annual election of our Minnesota Atheists Board of Directors.
All terms of office are for one year. The elections themselves will take place at our meeting on Sunday, February 15, 2026, and the new board will become active on March 1, 2026.
All board meetings are by Zoom, so you don’t have to worry about traveling to them.
The board currently meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. They also tend to have a working meeting on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm, which usually focuses more in-depth on a single issue. However, when new members join the board, the board strives to find a day and time that can accommodate everyone.
The positions are: President, Associate President, Chair, Associate Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and three Directors-at-Large. Learn about the duties here.
To be eligible for most positions, you must have been a dues-paying member of Minnesota Atheists for a year, as of March 1, 2026. The requirement for Directors-at-Large is six months membership as of that date.
You must be nominated and seconded by a Minnesota Atheists member. You cannot nominate or second your own nomination. You need not be present to be nominated.
Some incumbents will be running again but there will also be some vacancies, and of course all positions are up for election so any eligible member can run for any of them.
An interesting feature of our organization is that if you run for one position and lose, you are immediately eligible to run for any other position that has not already been called. The order of positions elected are the same as listed above.
Nominees should submit a headshot photo (if we don’t already have one on file) and a candidate’s statement to our newsletter editor within a week of this January meeting. Elections will occur at the February Public Meeting.
