It’s Good to Be Seen
By Heather Hegi
After a year where we moved most of our events online, we are finally holding events in person once again!
The Month of May saw the return of:
- In person Trivia with a new event series on every Sunday evening 6 p.m. at Venn Brewery, 3550 E 46th St Suite 140, Minneapolis
- The Flying Spaghetti Monster Dinner which is held every 5th Sunday (about 4 times a year) 6 p.m. at Yarusso Bros Italian Restaurant, 635 Payne Ave, St Paul
- Freethinking Females which is held every last Monday of the month 5:30 p.m. at Sweeney’s Saloon, 96 North Dale St, St. Paul (the second Monday offering of Freethinking Females remaining online at this time)
- Bowling For Deities at Memory Lanes every 4th Saturday of the month at noon.
In June we welcomed the return of three more events to in person:
- Freethought Toastmasters, offering a Hybrid option at this time for both in person and online attendees, every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, 6:30 p.m. at Larpenteur Estates Party Room, 1260 Larpenteur Ave W, Saint Paul
- Our summer Freethought Picnics in which we bring together the larger freethought community including Humanists MN and Camp Quest. Minnesota Atheists hosted the June Picnic, and Humanist MN is hosting the July Picnic on Sunday July 18, 12:00 p.m. at Jaycees Shelter, 2540 Lexington Ave N, Roseville
- Blasphemer’s Brunch returned to Pizza Lucé in Richfield. Please see Meetup.com/MinnesotaAtheists to see offerings and RSVP
And I want to make special mention of three events coming up in July!
8. I have always wanted to get involved in community parades and not just May Day and PRIDE. Particularly community parades which have a strong church presence to make the statement that atheists are apart of their community too. My thought is to do a tour of parades, a different community parade each year. This year we have secured a spot in the Maple Grove Days Parade! Our success in having a strong presence in this parade depends on you, please join us on the evening of Thursday July 15, on the streets around Rice Lake Elementary, 13755 89th Ave N, Maple Grove. We will begin lining up at 5:30 p.m., please be there by 6:00 p.m., and the parade will start at 6:30 p.m. We provide signs to carry and t-shirts to wear.
9. PRIDE Festival, July 17–18, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Loring Park, 1382 Willow St, Minneapolis. While no parade this year, they have organized a festival, instead of the usual last weekend in June, it will be in July this year. Minnesota Atheists is planning to have a booth there, we hope you will stop by and even hang around to help us greet people and answer questions about atheism.
10. Humanists and Friends Potluck Summer Picnic Bash on Sunday July 18, 12:00 p.m. at Jaycees Shelter, 2540 Lexington Ave N, Roseville.
We hope to see you at one of our in-person events, but either way, we wish you an enjoyable summer!
