Rally for the Day of Reason

Presidents Column, April 2026

The people of the State of Minnesota ended the month of March with an enormous March, a protest of President Trump. Over 200,000 people attended the No Kings rally at the State Capitol alone! People are legitimately upset by the overreach of power and the inhumanity of the Trump administration. Atheists have reason to be upset too, with Trump repeatedly dismissing the Separation of Church and State and promoting Christian Nationalism Ideals.

Let’s tap into that need to protest and show up for the Day of Reason. We sure aren’t ready for a crowd of 200,000, but if we could get just a fraction of that to show up on a weekday in the Capitol Rotunda, we can make this a memorable event. There are always State Legislators that address the audience, which gives us hope. These legislators may end up in Congress in the future. Ilhan Omar spoke to us when she was a State Representative; while a religious person herself, being of a minority faith, she understands the need for the Separation of Church and State.

I find this event a very worthwhile endeavor. A large crowd can really make an impact on a local and national level. Signs are welcomed to this event but are not necessary. What’s important is to show up!
