Immigrants Make America Great

I’ve been appalled at the sheer disregard towards human lives and disregard of the rule of law that ICE has been inflicting on our state. They are picking up legal immigrants and even US born citizens due to the color of their skin, and don’t face any repercussions for holding them for hours in uncomfortable handcuffs, denying bathroom breaks, and inflicting pain and fear simply for being a minority. Not even undocumented immigrants deserve this kind of treatment. Everyone deserves to be treated humanely and afforded rights to plead their case.
Many like to think that America is the best country in the world, and it is a quality country which up until recently has been a land of liberty and justice for all, so of course people wish to migrate here to seek a better life for themselves. Our immigration system has been broken for a long time with not enough judges hearing cases, and the waiting system to get in just atrocious. Instead of fixing this system, the administration is punishing people for following the system, picking up people as they go to hearings and revoking temporary statuses. They don’t care if people are following the law, they have decided that they just don’t want immigrants.
On the flip side, they want us to have more babies as birth rates have been declining in the US. If they are truly worried about the population, it makes no sense to deport so many people. In fact, first generation immigrants are more likely to have larger families. It’s not hard to figure out what they really want, they want more white babies.

They may even subscribe to the ‘Great Replacement Theory’ where they fear getting replaced by non-white people.
People have always feared the newcomer, even here in the US. They are afraid of different beliefs, cultures, and languages; but we are richer for it. How many times have you been to a cultural fair where people are proud of their Scandinavian, German, or Irish heritage. Perhaps, like me, you remember stories of great-grandparents who didn’t speak much English, or you may know of towns that display their cultural heritage proudly. They didn’t assimilate overnight, and we shouldn’t expect that of the newcomers either.
This administration is acting out of fear, narcissism, and sociopathy. Fear of diversity, narcissist in thinking they are of a superior race, and acting like a sociopath in how they carry out the removal of immigrants. The only thing that’s guaranteed is change. I welcome immigrants and I welcome a more diverse society. Let’s keep striving for a more just world.
